Your safety and trip experience depend heavily on the condition of the machine you ride. Before you hand over the security deposit and ride off into the Assamese sunset, make sure you perform a thorough check of your rental bike.
The Pre-Ride Checklist
- Document Verification: Ensure the bike comes with original/valid copies of the RC (Registration Certificate), up-to-date Insurance, and a valid PUC (Pollution Under Control) certificate.
- Visual Inspection: Walk around the bike and record a continuous video on your smartphone. Point out any existing scratches, dents, or broken indicators to the rental staff so you aren't held liable later.
- Tires and Brakes: Check the tire tread depth; bald tires are dangerous in the rainy Northeast. Test both the front and rear brakes for responsiveness.
- Electricals: Turn on the bike and test the headlight (high and low beam), indicators, taillight, and the horn. A loud horn is essential for blind curves in the hills.
- Fluid Levels: Take a quick look at the engine oil level and check for any visible leaks around the engine block or suspension forks.
Taking 10 minutes to do this will guarantee a stress-free adventure!
